The oil mill plant process transforms oil-bearing seeds or nuts into refined, edible oil through a continuous, multi-stage operation. It begins with seed preparation, where raw seeds undergo cleaning to remove impurities, dehulling to remove outer shells, and conditioning (crushing, flaking, and heating) to break down cell walls and release trapped oil. Next, the prepped material enters the oil extraction phase, typically using mechanical pressing (expellers) for high-oil seeds or solvent extraction (usually using hexane) to maximize oil yield from lower-oil seeds or remaining press cake. The resulting raw oil then passes through filtration and refining—a process involving degumming, neutralization, bleaching, and deodorization to eliminate free fatty acids, color pigments, impurities, and unwanted odors—producing pure, high-quality edible oil ready for commercial packaging.
